Rad Reading – February

For this month I read the book The Running Dream by Wendell’s Van Draanen. This book is about a girl and her name is Jessica. Her life is running. She eat, sleeps, and breathes running. So when she looses a leg because of an horrible incident, her life is broken. Jessica gets told she can soon walk again with a prosthetic leg and it’s easy to get one since her leg is B.K (below knee). As she goes through the book she meets a girl she always over looked, Rosa, and Rosa has cerebral palsy and when she is in Jessica’s life, she makes Jessica realize that Jessica still had so many opportunities ahead in her own life.

I recommend reading this book because of character arc. Throughout the story, Jessica learns many things and notice things she overlooked before like Rosa! You get to read what she’s thinking and over time it changes from negative “I could never do this” to positive “This is only the beginning” and that’s something that’s so amazing. For that reason, that is why I recommend this book.

My favorite character is Fiona. Fiona is my favorite character of all because of how caring she was, how thoughtful she was, and how helpful she was towards everyone. If I had to choose one character trait, I would pick thoughtful and a quote to prove that is, “ Fiona’s planning cupcakes and streamers and banners. Loudspeaker announcements and music. She’s planning my return to school.” This quote shows that even though Jessica never asked that of her, she still makes an effort to try and welcome Jessica back to school as much as she can.

There were a lot of quote that I loved in this book but by far my favorite has to be, “ I’m surrounded by friends, by family, by my teammates and coach, and by warm, supportive strangers. They’ve all helped me in some way get over that finish line.” This is by far my favorite because it shows how far she’s come. Jessica would usually use “finish line” as in a physical race but when she’s using this she means where’s got to in her life. I really relate to her because if any of the people in my life weren’t there for me, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Jessie’s Invisible Day!

The possibilities are endless if you are invisible for twenty-four hours! When I wake up, I would be freaking out so the first thing I would do is look in the mirror. After I’m doing freaking out in the bathroom, I would go and try and see if I can freak my parents or siblings out. I would drop a few things, mess around with stuff around them, I would even take some clothes from my siblings closets since they never wanna share! After I’m done with that I would go out and walk to my aunt’s house because my favorite dogs live there. I’ve always wondered what they do when no one’s home so I would spy on them and throw some toys. I know the toys would confuse them but that would make it even funnier! After staying there for a while, I would go to my friends house and show them because obviously, I love my friends but then I would go home. That’s what my day would look like if I were invisible for a day. What would you do for twenty-four hours?
