What Measures Happiness?

I was told to respond to the picture below and this is what I think. Fulfillment and satisfaction is not measured by materialistic value, but by the measurement of gratitude, gratefulness, and appreciation. What this means is that no matter how much you have you can never be sure of your happiness if it’s not appreciated. This is really important because people would die for what other people have but they don’t realize that other people have great stuff but they are not happy. That is my response to the picture below.

20% Week 6 – Closing!

For a quick recap of my 20% project, I attempted to learn the ukulele! Throughout every week I’ve had such a great experience and this was the last week. This week I had many accomplishments. I recapped everything I’ve learn correctly which was amazing, finished my script, and I finished my project board! The struggles I had this week were not the best. When I was trying to make my script, I had a block and got stuck and I didn’t know what to write but then I asked my friends for ideas and they helped me! Then, when I was trying finish my project board, I wanted to print papers with color but my teacher couldn’t print anything with color so I made an adjustment to take my board home and work on it there since I have a printer that could print color! Although I didn’t get to finish my song I still could show people the skills I have learned. That’s the end of my 20% blogs. See you in the next blog!

Memory Rewind!

This year in 7th grade has been on of the best years of my whole life, It’s been a whole school year and it felt like a week! I’ve made so many memories and probably my top three has to be going on the Cal State Fullerton field trip, my Knight of the Museum project, and most of all, my lunches! My first favorite memory was the Cal State Fullerton field trip. On this day we took a tour on campus and we got to see classes, talk to students, and got to go on our own with our friends to go eat! It was so much fun and I would definitely like to relive that day. My second favorite memory is my Knight of the Museum project. This one is one of my favorites because I loved making my board, talking with friends, and presenting to all my friends and family! My third and final favorite memory I made this year at school are my lunches. My lunches have been so fun and exciting because of all my friends! I love spending time with them and just hanging out. Everyday I looked forward to see my friends at lunch because they are all my favorites! If I could I would love to relive this whole school year because I’m not ready for eighth grade!!! But everything has to end for something new to start so with that being said, those are my top three memories I have made this year.

20% Week 5 – The Flop!

To recap what I am doing for my 20% project, I am learning the ukulele! This week my original goal was to finish the song I was learning. I had one struggle which was I have not finished the song so I had to make an adjustment which was to just learn as much notes as you can with no rush. I sort of felt slow when learning the song which unmotivated me a little but then I decided I just had to push that aside and get the job done! What I did accomplish was I finished almost half the song and I feel like I know it well. Next time, I will try and finish my song and although I’m not sure if I can, I will try because I have to get it done. I think next week I will get through 3/4 of my song then I should finish the song by next week. Thank you and I’ll see you next week!

Favorite Room!

My home is my favorite place to be and I have multiple favorite rooms! If I had to pick what my favorite room is, I’d pick the kitchen because that is where I get my food, I love to cook, and I have so many fun memories in the kitchen! The first reason why the kitchen is my favorite is because obviously, it’s where I get my food! I love going to the kitchen and getting a yummy snack after school and I also love eating my delicious food my mama makes for me. The second reason is that I love to cook. Cooking is so fun and you can make so many things! I especially love when I make food for my siblings and they actually like it, because that that’s how you know I cooked not so bad! The last reason is, I have so many fun memories in the kitchen! I have made so many memories with friends, family, and also just by myself so it’s hard not to pick the kitchen as my favorite room. Those are the reasons why the kitchen is my favorite room, but what’s your favorite room?

Rad Reading – April

For the month of April the book I chose to read is a fictional romantic love novel called In Five Years by Rebecca Serle. This book is about the main character, Dannie, being freshly engaged with her fiancé, David, and she falls asleep for an hour but has the craziest dream! She’s confused because it feels so real, it felt like Dannie was actually there and when she woke up she felt like nothing happened. She hadn’t told her best friend, Bella, about her dream because she didn’t want her worrying but she couldn’t stop thinking about the dream so she talked to a therapist to help get rid of the thought. Five years past and the impossible happened!

I recommend this book because it brings drama, excitement, and see what real friendship is! Dannie’s emotions and feelings throughout the book really makes the book and draws you in to keep reading. I’ve read this book a couple of times and every time I never wanted to put it down so maybe it can be that book for you too! For those reasons, that is why I really recommend this book.

My favorite character in the book has to be Bella! She’s my favorite person in the book because I love her personality and her overall as a character. If I had to give one character trait to her it would be fun! A quote to prove this is, “I make her life smooth and solid. She makes mine bright and dazzling. This seems fair. A good trade.” This quote was said by Dannie and she’s talking about Bella. She describes Bella as “bright” and “dazzling” and that’s exactly how I see her. I love people like Bella so that is why she is my favorite character.

I have a lot a favorite quotes from this book because it is just such a good one! If I had to pick one it would definitely be, “The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn’t said.” This quote has to be my favorite because it just is so true. I have had many situations that I have had to communicate through and it just is so hard when they don’t say what needs to be said, so when this quote was spoken I just absolutely fell in love with it. In Five Years is an amazing book and deserves to be read!

20% Week 3 – Song Picking!

This is week three of my 20% project and to remind you what I am doing, I am learning the ukulele! This week my goal was to pick a song and learn some notes. One of the struggles I had while doing my project was when I was researching was song to do, I didn’t know which one to pick. There were so many songs to choose from and I didn’t know if I should an actual song or just a melody like “Happy Birthday”. Although, there wasn’t any adjustments made, I decided on “Hey There Delilah” by Plain White T’s. My accomplishments I made this week were I picked a good song and learned a few notes from the song. Next week, my goal is that I am going to learn more notes from the song and practice hard so I learn the notes by heart. See you next week!

20% Week 2 – Strumming!

To remind you what I did for my 20% project, I chose to learn the ukulele! Last week, I learned some notes and strings and this week I’m going to learn how to strum properly. I found some YouTube videos to show me examples on how to strum properly, and was pretty hard at first but then it got easier as I kept learning. I asked my brother who is also my mentor if I was strumming properly and he said yes!! To remember how to strum properly I practiced over and over until I could do it with not video. I had no struggles this week because of how easy my goal was, and nothing went wrong so I did not have to make any adjustments. Overall I am pretty happy on how I accomplished this goal and next week I am going to pick a song and learn some notes!

20% Week 1 – The Basics!

Hi, my name is Jessie and for my 20% project I chose to learn ukulele! This week my goal was to accomplish learning tuning and basic chords. I also learned some strings and how to play them, some of the strings were A, E, G, and C! Some pictures and posters and also videos I found online helped me with learning the chords and also an app I downloaded called Tuner helped with the tuning part. Although I accomplished that goal I also had some complications. Some of the complications were that the classroom was too noisy for the tuner to hear the ukulele string, and I forgot my pick! To help with these complications the adjustments I made were to just play without the pick and I moved outside of the classroom to tune the ukulele. To help we remember all the strings I remember that people sometimes put the strings in order from 1st-4th so I remember A is 1st, E is 2nd, G is 3rd, and C is 4th! Next week I want to learn basic chords and I am so glad I picked learning the ukulele as my 20% project!

Rad Reading – March

For the month of March, I read a fictional love story called Holding up the Universe by Jennifer Niven and it’s between two characters named Libby and Jack. Libby is a girl who’s mother passed a lot time ago. When her mother passed, Libby’s only escape from everything was eating and for that she gained a lot of weight. She falls asleep then her house gets caught on fire and she had to get picked up out of the house by a crane. Libby goes back to school after being homeschooled and losing two hundred pounds only to have people find out that the famous “fat girl” was her. Jack is a guy who has a disorder called prosopagnosia, commonly called face blindness and it’s a disorder which stops him but being able to recognize faces. He’s known as a cool guy so he doesn’t tell anyone about it but in his heart he hate it. At first, both of the characters don’t like each other but then that changes!

I recommend this book because of the storyline! The storyline was so good and every time you start reading you never wanna stop because that’s now good it is. It’s one of those books you always want to talk about and always will remember. Just how the character development happen was perfect and I loved every bit of it. Holding up the Universe is one amazing written book and that is why I think you should read it.

One of my favorite characters in the book is Jack. I love Jack because he kind of reminds me of myself which is, he just wants to be liked by people. Although, some people would say he’s a jerk at some moments but his character development makes up for it! One of my favorite quote from Jack is, “I take her hand under the grey-blue sky and I’m home.” This quote is so cute! Just thinking about how he thinks of Libby is amazing, he thinks about her as if she’s the only girl in the world and that is why Jack is my favorite character!

I have a TON of favorite quote from this book! If I had to pick my favorite it would be, “We’re all weird and damaged in our own way. You’re not the only one.” This quote is my favorite quote because of how genuine it is. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people think they are better then others and try to put people down so this quote means a lot because it’s saying even though you might think your alone on something, you can tell yourself that your not. And for that reason that is why that is my favorite quote out of the whole book.
